- It's a privilege to have grandchildren
and many grandparents don't
get the chance to be involved
or have close relationships
with their grandchildren.
And we, we, we work very hard at that.
- Our job is to keep fit and
healthy so we can do that.
- You have to be fit and
healthy to follow a 3-year-old.
- Yes. So what what is nice for us is
that we can be independent and we can go
and pick them up, take them into the city.
- We share the driving and we,
we feel safe and confident doing it.
You have to be aware of
the fact that, you know,
driving nowadays is a lot
more pressurised than it was
40 years ago or 10 years ago.
Try to be much more aware of
what other people are gonna do rather
than simply my own driving.
I think that's certainly
with the kids in the car,
that's something I do a lot. Yeah.
- When there was an option of
grandchildren coming along,
we said, oh my goodness,
we better get a good car.
- We were looking for things
like the automatic braking
systems, certainly front
and side airbags, lane sensor, those sort
of things all give you some
sort of confidence that you can
carry on even in a highly pressurised
driving environment.
- I love driving with Ken
because he's a good driver
and as long as I tell him where we're going
and how to get there,
we'll be absolutely fine.
- And I'm very lucky. I've
had somebody telling me how
to drive for 50 years
- And where to park and where not to park.
I am the parking the
- parking assist.
Yeah.
- Reg's friend brought him along to church
and I was going with somebody else, but
after a few months I dropped him
and we are married for 62 years.
- When I was a teenager,
I rode to work every day
and I rode from Parkville to Essendon
airport and back every day.
But there was an incentive
because every time I did it I thought I'm
saving money for the car.
- My parents never owned
a car, we never thought
of anything else but having to
walk, I've just kept walking.
We do about two to three km in the morning.
If it's nice in the afternoon
or late afternoon, we might
do another short walk.
- We like going to different
places, getting out,
having a walk, have a look around.
You have a chance to see
things better than when you
go past them in the car.
You know, we are aware
that there's this imminent
end goal, if you like, of
not being able to drive.
But at the moment I think both
of us feel quite
confident with what we do.
I mean, we're very aware of our age
and the fact that it can
impede on our driving skills
and I'm sure Lois is gonna
tell me as soon as I start
to do the wrong thing
and I'll, I mean, I'll be
honest, I'll do the same
to her if I had to too. So.
- Our daughter said the other day, mom,
I've looked at, watched you driving.
You're both okay at the moment
and we will tell you when you're not.
So that's nice to know
that the family are, are
looking and aware that we are getting older.
