After 40 year working,

so now I am semi-retired,
even semi-retired

I can't stop. I work as a volunteer

for the Chinese community.

My main job is help them
to how to use their,

like a mobile phone or
computer or a smart TV

because most of the people
from the North Melbourne,

Chinese community, they're
senior people, so I like

to use my car to pick them up

and make sure the safety to
come to the community centre

to join our activities.

I bought a new car

because the new car equipped
with very good safety feature

and it's very comfortable car as well,

and when I take the senior, the age people

the safety is my first priority.

Volunteering. Make me feel happy.

Yeah, this is my semi retired job.

- Because I live outside of Melbourne

and public transport is,
it is really very limited.

I rely totally on my car to,
to get well, to get me really

where I need to go.

I really like keeping
fit, keeping healthy.

It's part of my self image,

but it's in fact also part of my lifestyle

because if I'm not fit and
healthy, I can't drive.

If I can't drive, I can't
keep fit and healthy.

And it also obviously
connects me to my community,

which is incredibly important.

I have a lovely daily
routine, meet up with friends,

have a coffee and a chat,
and then Cody and I go off.

So what is great is he needs
to walk and I need to walk

and I used to run, but I think
I'm a bit past that now.

So I walk and the dog runs.

I had an issue with my leg

and with mobility, couldn't drive.

And while it sounds lovely,
just sitting up all day

with your leg up, it's
a nightmare when you

can't do what you want.

And like, like someone who's
lived on their own likes,

being independent, to ask for help

or even to accept help
was very, very difficult.

But they were fantastic.

A friend picked me up every morning

and drive me down to coffee, have a chat,

someone did shopping,
someone walked my dog,

someone mowed my lawn, someone drove me

to numerous medical appointments.

It's incredible. It's
important that people realise

that it's not the end of the world.

That there are other
things that are out there,

there are people who can help.

There are even things
like half price taxis,

there's public transport

that people could help them get them to.

But I guess the most important thing is

that people really mustn't be
afraid to ask for help because

otherwise you will become isolated.

People will become isolated.

Accepting offers for help
is incredibly important.

Yeah, it was a, it was a good lesson.

- It's a privilege to have grandchildren

and many grandparents don't
get the chance to be involved

or have close relationships
with their grandchildren.

And we, we, we work very hard at that.

- Our job is to keep fit and
healthy so we can do that.

- You have to be fit and
healthy to follow a 3-year-old.

- Yes. So what what is nice for us is

that we can be independent and we can go

and pick them up, take them into the city.

- We share the driving and we,

we feel safe and confident doing it.

You have to be aware of
the fact that, you know,

driving nowadays is a lot
more pressurised than it was

40 years ago or 10 years ago.

Try to be much more aware of

what other people are gonna do rather

than simply my own driving.

I think that's certainly
with the kids in the car,

that's something I do a lot. Yeah.

- When there was an option of
grandchildren coming along,

we said, oh my goodness,
we better get a good car.

- We were looking for things
like the automatic braking

systems, certainly front

and side airbags, lane sensor, those sort

of things all give you some
sort of confidence that you can

carry on even in a highly pressurised

driving environment.

- I love driving with Ken
because he's a good driver

and as long as I tell him where we're going

and how to get there,
we'll be absolutely fine.

- And I'm very lucky. I've
had somebody telling me how

to drive for 50 years

- And where to park and where not to park.

I am the parking the

- parking assist.
